5. Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown

PS4, Xbox One & PC

Starting at number 5 is Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. The Ace Combat 7 release is 18 January. Ace Combat 7 looks to be very promising for every gamer with a need for speed in the sky. Ace Combat 7 puts players in control of the most advanced war machines in the air. Besides improved graphics, Skies Unknown provides the player with an extensive single player campaign.

AC7 gives players access to a large arsenal of modern super weapons. But beware: your enemies don’t kid around. The Ace Combat franchise is known for being a challenge and Skies Unknown won’t be an exception. Gamers who are really looking for the full simulation experience can put on their virtual reality goggles, because Ace Combat 7 supports PS VR.

Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown release date: 18 January, 2019

4. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Nintendo Switch

Number 4 of the top 5 January 2019 game releases is the remaster of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. New Super Mario Bros U has been released for the previous Nintendo console, the Wii U, in 2012. Because the game was loved by fans and very successful, Nintendo decided to improve the graphics and release it again on their current game console the Nintendo Switch. New Super Mario Bros Switch is exactly what you’d want and expect from a 2D Mario game.

You can obviously play Mario Bros U Deluxe on your own and have a great time, but the real fun begins when you play it together with others. Not a lot has changed for the Nintendo Switch version, except for the controls, obviously. You can now also play New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on the go with the ease of the Switch console - and that’s pretty special.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe release date: 11 January, 2019

3. Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition

PS4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch

At number 3 in our top 5 best January game releases, you find Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition. The game releases on 11 January for PS4, Xbox One and PC. As you can guess by the title “Definitive Edition”, this game is also a remaster. The original Tales of Vesperia was released in 2008 for the previous generation of consoles, but because publisher Namco seeks to reach out to a new audience, they have decided to remaster Tales of Vesperia.

Naturally, there are also a lot (and I mean a lot) of loyal fans who would like to play the game again on the current generation of consoles. To give you some insight: Tales of Vesperia is a Role-Playing-Game franchise from Japan that has had game releases for many years now. Tales-games are all about story, strategic fighting and lovable characters. You’ll definitely get your money’s worth out of Tales of Vesperia, with at least 50 hours of gaming fun.

Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition release date: 11 January, 2019

2. Resident Evil 2 Remake

PS4, Xbox One & PC
The top 5 best new games of January 2019 seems to be dedicated to old games that have either been remastered or remade entirely. The Resident Evil 2 Remake is a remake from start to finish. Experience the same story, characters, and gameplay that made the original Resident Evil 2 such an immensely popular and successful franchise. The original Resident Evil 2 saw its release in 1998. Publisher and developer Capcom was one of the first studios which created a scary horror game that was actually fun to play. Resident Evil 2 was also one of the first games where you had to escape a zombie apocalypse, which was still an original premise at the time.

The game was really exciting because it made you look around every corner, totally scared out of your mind. Players really had to struggle, run away and hide to stay alive. There aren’t any slow motion moves, your ammunition is limited and don’t even think your health bar will replenish automatically. You’re human in the Resident Evil 2 Remake - and that’s truly terrifying, but also genuinely enjoyable. Resident Evil 2 Remake will be released on 25 January, 2019. You can already pre-order the game online in the PSN Store, Xbox Microsoft Store and Steam.

Resident Evil 2 Remake release date: 25 January, 2019

1. Kingdom Hearts 3

PS4, Xbox One
Kingdom Hearts 3 has been in development for a very long time - and that’s putting it mildly. Developer Square Enix loves to take its sweet time when it comes to their biggest game franchises. This is especially the case when lead game director Tetsuya Nomura is involved. Patience will be rewarded for Kingdom Hearts fans when Kingdom Hearts 3 is released on 29 January, 2019 for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Once again, you will play as our Keyblade wielding hero Sora. Your pals Donald and Goofy will join you on another adventure through many Disney worlds. Find out why darkness is spreading through the world of Kingdom Hearts and discover who your real friends and enemies really are. KH3’s storyline is actually a very rich and deep one. The Kingdom Hearts story continues while you slash your way through various Disney worlds like Frozen, Toy Story, Tangled, Big Hero 6, Monster Inc and Pirates of the Caribbean. The combat looks faster and flashier than ever before. All in all, Kingdom Hearts 3 looks very promising all across the board. We can’t wait to play as Sora once again
