New Netflix Releases January 2021: Our Top 5

Netflix UK top 5 new releases January 2021

New Netflix Releases January 2021

It’s a new year and a new start. Yet, we still have a few more months ahead of us with more time at home. That means little excuse is needed for binge-watching. And there’s plenty to see.

To save you time in picking something to watch, we’ve looked into what is on Netflix UK in January 2021, and we’ve selected some favourites. So, if you’re wondering what to watch on Netflix UK, here’s our Top 5:

1. The Dig

On the eve of WW2, an amateur archaeologist is summoned by a wealthy widow to examine the burial mounds on her estate. As he begins his excavation work, the mysterious past of the Dark Ages reveals itself before him. The film, based on the true story of the Sutton Hoo excavation, will take you into a different world. WIll the immediate danger posed by the war take a backseat to the desire to discover and preserve the mysteries of the past?

2. Pieces of a Woman

Not a film to be taken lightly. This drama starring Shia LaBeouf and Vanessa Kirby, is a deeply moving account of the tragic loss of a child at birth and its impact on the parents’ life. Is moving on a possibility, when there is no closure, no blame to place, and no justice to be served?

You may recognise Vanessa Kirby from her role as Princess Margaret on the Netflix show The Crown. In Pieces of a Woman, she delivers a masterpiece of a performance. Although you’d have to be in the right state of mind for this film, it’s certainly worth watching.

3. The Circle USA (Season 1)

If you think that anyone can be anyone on social media, you should watch The Circle US. In this reality show, contestants live in the same building without seeing each other. They only communicate via “The CIrcle” - a social media of sorts, in which they all have a profile. Since they cannot see each other, they can present themselves as completely different people to others in order to gain their support. And they do that to a disturbing extent.

The goal is to become the ultimate influencer of The Circle and be the last one standing while blocking others and “helping” them eliminate each other. Ready for some real (or fake) action?

4. All About Nina

After its world premiere on Tribeca Film Festival in 2018, All About Nina has received quite some positive critical acclaim. The comedy-drama follows young stand-up comedian NIna, who struggles with her personal life. After moving to LA to leave her ex behind and start a new life, she meets Raf - the man who is about to challenge her view of the world, and of herself. A sweet and enjoyable film for a relaxing afternoon at home.

5. Dredd

Remember Karl Urban from LOTR? In Dredd you get to see him in a whole new light. Based on the Judge Dredd comic books, this superhero film will take you into the dark depths of a violent urban future. Dredd is a policeman who has the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner. Together with a rookie, he’s out to take down a gang dealing with SLO-MO - a reality-altering drug with unsurprising popularity in this dystopic, hopeless city of the future.

How to Get Netflix

You could go the regular way and start a subscription with Netflix, with recurring monthly payments. However, you might want to know that there’s an alternative. You can pay for Netflix using a Netflix gift card. That’s handy, especially if you’re not sure Netflix is for you, or you’re only temporarily in need of entertainment until the lockdown is over.

Here’s how to get Netflix with a Netflix gift card:
  • You buy a Netflix gift card online.
  • Within 30 seconds, you receive your gift card code via email.
  • Use that code to pre-pay your Netflix access for 2, 3, or 5 months, depending on the value of the gift card you bought.

That’s it! You can now enjoy all the perks of binge-watching without having to provide a credit card or worrying about automatic renewals. Or, wondering how to cancel Netflix. Once your gift card amount is used up, your access to Netflix will simply stop. Whether you continue or not is up to you.
